CTI - Cell Transplantation Innovations Ltd. is a young biotechnology company focused on the field of tissue engineering. CTI is devoted to the development  of novel treatments for articular cartilage injuries and other cartilage defects.

There is an unmet need for treating lesions in the articular cartilage surface  of the knee, since articular cartilage does not self repair in vivo. Current clinical  treatment methods are insufficient. Large articular cartilage defects often cause progressive degenerating changes due to changes in joint biomechanics. The ultimate result of articular cartilage destruction is post traumatic osteoarthritis.  CTI's objective is the treatment of theses cartilage defects by autologous  chondrocyte transplantation.

CTI has developed powerful tools for the propagation of human cartilage cells,  as a basis for for a new generation of therapy based on autologous chondrocyte transplantation in variety of joint disorders. A successful clinical trial using CTI's  autologous chondrocyte transplant - BioCart - for the treatment of articular damage in the knee has been performed. CTI has since received a license from the Israeli Ministry of Health to perform cartilage transplantation on a commercial basis.  The core technology used in CTI is based on scientific work performed in Tel Aviv University and in Weizmann institute of Science. The patented technology licensed to CTI includes patents describing articular cartilage growth and transplantation and the manipulation of cartilage cells.

CTI facility is located in Kiryat Weizmann Science Park, in Rehovot, Israel, and  includes a Class 10,000 certified clean room for cell cultivation as well as a state of the art research infrastructure. CTI maintains interactions with prominent scientific and medical experts in Israel and throughout the world.

All CTI employees are university graduates, and most of cell sciences, biochemistry and molecular biology. CTI is privately owned.
